ABOUT THE ROLE

If you love building aircraft, this is the job for you! MightyFly is looking for a master airframe technician to join our small but agile team. The position will entail prototype fabrication of components for experimental aircraft such as fuselages, wings, tails, landing gear, as well as assembly and integration of aircraft sub-systems like electric motors and controllers, reciprocating engines, batteries, avionics, and sensors. Candidates should demonstrate experience in metal working, composites, hand tools, loading & running CNC jobs, and general airframe assembly and maintenance. The position includes the opportunity to develop into a shop lead, managing a growing team of technicians.

WHAT YOU’LL DO

Daily

  • CNC aptitude: generate G-code from provided CAD files, job setup, run, & monitor
  • Sheet metal fabrication: cut, drill, ream, dry-fit, rivet
  • Assembly of components and subsystems
  • Composites fabrication: wet-layup, prepreg lamination, cure, demold, finishing
  • Secondary bonding: clean, prep, bond, sand, finish
  • Finishing: Sand, fill, and fair
  • Use of machine shop equipment and hand tools
  • Engineering drawing interpretation 
  • General shop organization, cleanliness, upkeep
  • Must be able to lift 50lbs

Occasionally

  • Sourcing and ordering tools, supplies, and consumables
  • Helping plan work and process flows
  • Estimating task durations / schedules
  • Participating in brainstorming and design reviews
  • Providing feedback to engineering
  • Painting / vinyl wrapping

WHAT YOU’LL BRING

General

  • Aptitude for building systems from the ground up
  • A strong interest for tackling and solving complex problems
  • Self-direct and/or cooperate in occasionally hectic workflows
  • Exceptionally sharp focus on accuracy and detail

Experience & Skills

  • 5+ yrs hands-on aircraft assembly
  • 2+ yrs metallics in relevant field
  • 2+ yrs composite manufacturing in relevant field
  • Composite tooling fabrication
  • Out-of-autoclave prepreg composites
  • Structural adhesive bonding
  • Assembling complex and/or precision equipment
  • Interpreting and fabricating with technical drawings
  • Excellent communication, organization, time-management

Bonuses

  • Certified A&P
  • Familiarity with aviation certification standards & processes
  • Familiarity with large UAVs or VTOL aircraft
  • Machining and welding skills
  • Aircraft harnessing/wiring experience
  • Internal combustion engine mechanic skills
  • Instrumentation/sensors installation
  • Familiarity with high voltage power electronics
